Recommended minimum salary 

LawCareers.Net reports that two law firms have revealed increases in salary for their newly qualified (NQ) lawyers, as pay rises for NQs continue to be announced across the profession. 

Law Society president Nick Emmerson said that the minimum salary policy, “Applies to anyone undertaking a period of recognised training, such as a training contract, or anyone employed with the primary purpose of gaining qualifying work experience.”

Japan’s legal market 

Practice source reports on the Japan’s Ministry of Justice streamlining the registration process for overseas-qualified lawyers to work in Japan. 

Law Society president Nick Emmerson said: “These changes to streamline the registration process will help to save time and money for both law firms and foreign lawyers in Japan.

Legal Futures and Inside Conveyancing report that licensed conveyancers will be encouraged by their regulator to move away from the risks of client account as it becomes more practical. The Law Society’s Special General Meeting is mentioned.
