Legal needs survey
Solicitors Journal, Gazette and Today’s Family Lawyer covers our reaction to findings from the Legal Needs Survey 2023 report, as only one in five people believe justice is accessible.
President Nick Emmerson said: “There is alarmingly little confidence in access to justice or awareness of legal aid.
"Not only have massive cuts in legal aid left countless without access to justice, but weak public legal education has also left millions in the dark.
"We will continue to push the UK government to invest in solutions that ensure accessible justice for all, a strong legal aid system, and better public legal education."
Release provisions for prisoners
Dr Laura Janes, member of our criminal law committee, writes in the Gazette about the practical impact of new release provisions for prisoners.
Gazette also covers Laura’s advice on what to do if a client is detained unlawfully.
Legal aid sector
Gazette reports that a Yorkshire firm is preparing to go into legal aid, going against an ongoing trend of providers quitting the sector.
According to Law Society analysis of the government’s provider directory and Office for National Statistics data, 63% of the population in England and Wales do not have access to an immigration and asylum legal aid provider.
Conveyancing process
Negotiator publishes an interview with a conveyancer discussing ways to speed up the house selling process. The piece mentions our conveyancing TA6 form.
